ABOUT JOSEPH
At the outset, my work has come at the risk of self, in the hope of achieving a meaningful intimacy through the image. I attempt to connect with the viewer emotionally, with intent and authenticity. The galleries expose, without subterfuge, an ideological construct where an emotional withdrawal was fundamental; insulating myself in a household whose daily life was consumed with financial instability, shame and the chaos a difficult sibling imposed.
Although my adult life stands in stark contrast, my immutable thinking, at times, imposes an emotional discomfort. My camera, as clinician allows me to distill these realities analytically, contributing to a greater understanding of the photographs motivation.
I’m an analog photographer, exclusively. My belief is that the medium demands knowledge of the art form’s history, it’s various processes and technical acuity, evoking a personal romantic notion.
